Former Madog Center Director Kara Lewis began work on the Oral History Project in the fall of 2002 after realizing the importance of recording memories of the older Welsh-Americans in this area. She used a questionnaire format to keep the participants talking freely during the interviews. Questions generally revolved around getting the interviewees to give information on their connection to Wales, knowledge of the Welsh language, stories from Wales or the “old days”, early memories of the Welsh settlement in this area, the gymanfa and Eisteddfod. The Madog Center is currently working to transcribe these cassette and video tapes so they can be bound and published, in booklet form as well as on the web site. We also hope to be able to upload the sound files to this site soon as well. Contact the Center for information on viewing these recordings. We have the following in our library:
